Every Mother contains her daughter in herself and every daughter her mother and every mother extends backwards into her mother and forwards into her daughter.
-C. G. Jung
Mother-daughter relationships are universal, yet can be experienced in many forms. In this 4 week workshop, we will explore the mother daughter relationship through an archetypal and personal lens, first through the myth itself, and secondly by painting the images that arise within us, as they relate to the theme of this unique dynamic. Looking at the series of paintings produced during the first three weeks, we will reflect on the process of painting our images, as well as the development of our own mother and daughter dynamic, both internally as well as within the context of the group. This workshop does not require experience in painting and is for adults only.
Course Objectives:
- Demonstrate how symbolic content can be expressed through painting images of the unconscious.
- Describe how evoking symbols from the unconscious can have a healing effect.
- Describe how this technique can be helpful during times of emotional transition.
- Describe how creating an image with the hands can evoke a more active attitude.
- Describe how bringing unconscious images into consciousness can be used to strengthen ego development.
- Describe the evolution of symbols over a period of guided imagery.
- Describe how to amplify an image within a group process.
- Describe the advantages of delayed interpretation of symbols.
