Presented by David Burston, Ph.D.
In this presentation we will examine some of the reasons why sports has an ever increasing hold over the public psyche, where this originated, and its meaning for us as clinicians. We will illustrate how Jungian depth perspectives have proven to be an effective tool in the field of sports psychology at the highest levels, helping performers connect to their inner lives in more meaningful and effective ways. Drawing from his forthcoming book, Dr. Burston will explore essential themes such as play, while illuminating the archetypal identifies alive within sports as well as their origins in ancient Greece and before.
Course Objectives:
- Give an example of how Jung’s ideas have influenced sports psychology.
- Describe the archetypal origins of the athlete from. Jungian perspective.
