The house is a timeless metaphor for self, memory, belonging, and transformation. This symbol carries deep emotional resonance across cultures and many personal experiences. In this immersive painting workshop, we will invite images of the house through guided imagination that might reveal aspects of our inner lives to actively elaborate on those images as a form of self-exploration. Participants will discover new inner spaces by creating visual representations of different stages of their inner house over the duration of the classes. No artistic experience is required.
Learning Objectives:
- Demonstrate how symbolic content can be expressed through painting images of the unconscious.
- Describe how evoking symbols from the unconscious can have a healing effect.
- Describe how this technique can be helpful during times of emotional transition.
- Describe factors that contribute to the development of a symbolic attitude.
- Describe how creating an image with the hands can evoke a more active attitude.
- Describe how bringing unconscious images into consciousness can be used to strengthen ego development.
- Describe the evolution of symbols over a period of guided imagery .
- Describe how to amplify an image within a group process.
