A talk, a celebration and small feast, a book launch and signing, and a testimony to the power of the living psyche by Jungian analyst and author Sharon Heath.
Come and hear Sharon Heath amplify how a Jungian perspective can liberate, deepen, and enhance our capacity for creativity and self-expression, taking us to places—inner and outer—we might never have imagined. She’ll read passages from her new novel, Tizita, Book 2 of the Fleur Trilogy, and describe how a numinous image arising during a life-threatening illness paved the way for a surprising turn in the fiction series that began with her novel The History of My Body, a finalist for Foreward Review’s Book of the Year in 2011. In Tizita, quantum physicist Fleur Robins’ insatiable curiosity continues to draw her toward the edges of her much-dreaded void. Pulled along this time by her passion for her Ethiopian-born fiancé, and with her eccentric Caltech team still hot on the track of an answer to humanity’s over-reliance on fossil fuels, Fleur discovers that racial prejudice can arise in the most unexpected places, that fear of the feminine finds tragic expression in the practice of female genital circumcision, that Jane Goodalls’s Gombe Stream Research Centre is a place for healing humans as well as chimpanzees, and that new life that can birth itself from the dense soil of betrayal, disappointment, and loss.
Course Objectives:
- Give an example of how Jungian analysis supports a patient’s creative process.
- Describe what is meant by Jung’s concept of the Self and the role of the Self in the development of creativity .
Sharon Heath, M.A., M.F.T. is a Jungian analyst in private practice in Los Angeles. Her work has been published in Psychological Perspectives, Jung Journal: Culture & Psyche, and the Huffington Post, and she blogs at www.sharonheath.com. She is a contributor to Marked by Fire: Stories of the Jungian Way, edited by Naomi Lowinsky and Patricia Damery, and Depth Psychology and the Digital Age, edited by Bonnie Bright. Thomas-Jacob Publishing has recently released her novels The History of My Body (second edition, 2016) and Tizita (2017), the first two books of The Fleur Trilogy. A third is on the way.
