Presented by J. Gary Sparks, M.A., M.Div.
Continuing our investigation of the archetypal basis of experience, this workshop will describe the role of Jung’s final conception of the archetype, and its relationship to the analytic process. Using case material, we will examine the role of the psychoid aspect of the unconscious in the healing process of a patient with anorexia nervosa. Utilizing the patient’s dreams, including their alchemical symbolism, as well as the erotic aspects of the transference, we will look at the interplay of the mind-body connection in the context of the therapeutic relationship.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe what is meant by the psychoid archetype.
- Give an example of how the psychoic archetype is manifested in a patient dealing with anorexia.
- Describe what is meant by alchemical symbolism.
- Describe the stages of alchemy and their psychological parallel as they pertain to the therapeutic experience.
- Describe what is meant by the erotic aspect of the transference.
- Give an example of how the erotic transference can manifest in a patient with anorexia and how to work with this material in a way which leads to psychological integration.
