About the Author:Miguel de Cervantes was born in Spain in 1547. At twenty-three he enlisted in the Spanish militia, spending four years at sea and five as a slave after being captured by Barbary pirates. He was ransomed by his family and returned to Spain, but he did not begin Don Quixote until landing in debtor's prison.
