While addressing and holding the tension of these polarities can be challenging\, working with inner images through painting can be helpful. In this painting workshop\, we will utilize complimentary colors to evoke images of the unconscious\, and find creative ways in which to reconcile these pairs of opposites. The practice of painting inner images can be a helpful approach to express internal conflicts in a nonverbal way.  It also allows therapist to experience for themselves a therapeutic technique that they might utilize with clients. \nThis class does not require any previous experience in art or painting and is only for adults. It is open to both therapists and to the general public. \nLearning Objectives:  \n\nDescribe how feelings can be expressed in images;\nDescribe how painting inner images can help patients link image with affect in a symbolic way\nGive an example of how to analyze a series of inner images;\nDescribe and give an example of the interaction of unconscious and conscious forces in symbolic forms;\nDescribe what is meant by active imagination;\nDescribe how the technique of painting inner images can be helpful during times of emotional transition;\nDescribe factors which contribute towards the development of a symbolic attitude and why this is critical in psychotherapy;\nDescribe how bringing unconscious images into consciousness can be used to strengthen ego development.\n\nMarion Anderson\, Ph.D.\, is a Jungian analyst and clinical psychologist in private practice in   Santa Monica.
