DESCRIPTION:Presented by Sherri Mahdavi\, Ph.D. \n3 Tuesdays: February 9\, 16\, 23\, 2021 – 7:00 – 9:00 pm \nDon’t surrender your loneliness so quickly\nLet it cut more deep\nLet it ferment and season you – Hafiz \nI wish I could show you\,\nwhen you are lonely or in darkness\,\nthe Astonishing Light of your own Being! – Hafiz \n\nIn this seminar\, we will read poems by Persian mystic Sufi poets such as Attar\, Rumi\, Saadi\, and Hafiz. We will consider the sheer power of insight these poets possessed in understanding human experiences and the structure of the psyche.\nExploring the deeper symbolic meaning of these poems will reveal how the Sufis’ wisdom about the internal workings of the psyche parallels Jungian psychological understanding of the individuation process.\n\nSherri Mahdavi\, Ph.D.\, is a Jungian analyst and clinical psychologist in private practice in Irvine. She also serves as an associate professor of applied clinical psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Southern California\, where she teaches courses in depth psychology.
