DESCRIPTION:Presented by Paula Smith-Marder\, Ph.D.\n \nJung called complexes the building blocks of the psyche. We will consider how to identify a complex and its corresponding archetypal core and how to work with a complex when it becomes disruptive. Drawing from clinical experience and dream material\, we will examine the shadow in its positive and negative aspects and the challenges inherent in integrating this often split-off aspect of the personality. \n Learning Objectives: \n\n Identify a complex with its archetypal core.\nDescribe one way a person might know he or she is caught in a complex.\nDescribe what Jung meant by shadow.\nGive an example of how the shadow can manifest in a dream.\n\nPaula Smith-Marder\, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist and certified Jungian analyst with a private practice in Pacific Palisades. She is a past Director of Training and the current Chair of Admissions to the Analyst Training Program at the C.G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles. She teaches and supervises at the Jung Institute\, she taught at Alliant University\, and for ten years she was a psychologist consultant to The Women’s Life Center at UCLA. Her interests include oil painting\, piano\, and animal dreams.
