DESCRIPTION:Presented by Corey Hooper\, M.F.T.\n \nWhen I had journeyed half of our life’s way\,\nI found myself within a shadowed forest\,\nfor I had lost the path that does not stray. \nThe Divine Comedy: Inferno\, Dante Alighieri \nIn my initial sessions with my Control patient\, I truly felt unmoored and fragmented. I was reluctant to dive deeper and wondered if I could survive the intense anxiety that permeated the room. For a while\, my patient’s fears and defenses held us both hostage. However\, as we continued\, I found that the Self\, via my patient’s dreams\, was guiding us into a life that had moments of solace and meaning. \nIn this forum\, I will discuss how the analyst can learn to trust the psyche without being overwhelmed or needing to control the outcome of analytic sessions. I will describe how the analyst and patient can survive a feeling of not being enough. I will also describe how the Indian epic\, The Mahabharata\, the topic of my Creative project\, was a guiding polestar and gave me direction through the darkest moments of the Control phase. \nLearning Objectives:\nThis Forum is designed to help you: \n• Practice trusting the psyche so as not to control the outcome of analytic sessions.\n• Describe the guidance and direction that is revealed in the Indian epic\, The Mahabharata. \n  \n
