Max and Lore Zeller Library
Filling a peaceful corner of the C.G. Jung Institute’s building, the Max and Lore Zeller Library offers a welcoming space for study, and for browsing the Library’s 6,000 plus volumes on Analytical Psychology, general psychology, anthropology, mythology, religion, art and symbolism. In addition to books, a collection of audio and video tapes, CDs, and journals is available for borrowing by Library members. Members also have access, on the Library computer, to an extensive collection of archetypal images and commentary from ARAS (Archive for Archetypal Symbolism), and to the Kindle version of Jung’s Collected Works.
Membership is free for Analysts, Candidates and Interns of the Institute, members of Friends of the Institute.
Otherwise, membership is $25.00 per year.
Current library members get a 10% discount in the Bookstore.
You may check out up to 10 items at a time.
Books, CDs and DVDs are checked out free with membership; they are checked out for 3 weeks and may be renewed twice unless another member has asked that they be held. Books marked Library Use Only on the spine (LUO on the card/pocket) may not be checked out. They are protected because of their age, their scarcity, their fragility, etc. Like reference books, they may be used in the library.
Members can use the computer in the reading room to search our catalog, access ARAS, access the Kindle version of Jung’s Collected Works, and read online journals. (If you wish to print information from ARAS, charges will apply. )
Online Access from home to the Journal of Analytical Psychology is granted to members. Please contact the librarian for login information.
We do not offer mailing service for books, CDs, or videos, though it is possible for you to return them by mail. We offer limited copy service for journal articles or book chapters to be mailed (to both members and non-members).
Unless your material has been requested by another member (in which case you will be emailed immediately), the librarian will automatically e-mail you to let you know that its has been renewed and has a new due date.
Outside of regular library hours, books may be returned 9 am- 11 am at the administration office; at evening lectures if the bookstore is open; or by mail.
$0.25/item/day not including Sundays and holidays on which the Institute is closed. Fines can be paid in person at the institute or online HERE. Fines paid online may take 1 business day to be reflected in your account.
A $10 processing fee is added to the current cost-of-replacement including shipping. The Bookstore buys replacements for us; please do not buy your own replacements.
Because you are responsible for all materials borrowed on your membership card, please report a lost card as well as any change of address, phone number, or e-mail.
Volunteering at the Library
If you would like to earn a free membership while helping to support the Institute, please contact the librarian about volunteering at the library. Volunteering is a wonderful way to gain library experience while also gaining access to the library collection for free.
If you work 4 hours in a month, you will have earned a free volunteer membership for that month.
Typical Volunteer tasks include: typing and printing card and spine labels and affixing them; reinforcing paperback spines and mending books; “reading shelves” (making sure each book is filed in its proper order on a shelf); re-shelving books, and working on a great variety of other short-term projects.
